CPH DOX

Copenhagen

CPH:DOX – Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival – is one of the largest documentary film festivals in the world. The next edition of CPH:DOX takes place March 20, 2019.

CPH:DOX was founded in 2003. Supported by film professionals as well as the national press, CPH:DOX grew from 14,000 admissions in its first year to a record-breaking total of 97,500 admissions in 2017.

CPH:DOX continues to develop and expand, presenting a program that ranges from the works of major international directors to new talent, from large-scale theatrical releases to film/video works in the field between cinema and visual art. The program goes beyond traditional boundaries between disciplines and media, offering perspectives on creative crossovers between cinema, television and media art.

We insist on freeing the transformative potential of art and documentary films, that is the potential to have a direct impact on the social context. The appealing form of the documentary films allows for the communication of complicated problems in an intimate, reflective and profound manner. And no matter whether the topic is political, philosophical, experimental or focused on a narrow section of the world, documentary film expands and questions the viewer’s conception of the world.

CPH Dox, More than just a film festival

CPH:DOX doesn’t just show documentary films – we anchor them in social context through debates, artist talks, events and masterclasses. In the hope of creating real social transformation, CPH:DOX establishes a space for reflection, dialogue and opinion across the population, and with that making sure that the films and the problems they pose stay with the viewers long after they leave the cinema.

During the eleven days of the festival, CPH:DOX also presents concerts, art exhibitions, five whole days of professional seminarsa screening market, and the international financing and co-production event CPH:FORUM, as well as the film production program CPH:LAB and much more.

The festival’s centre is located in Kunsthal Charlottenborg, which hosts everything from film screenings to concerts or international industry activities. The exhibition space is furnished by Normann Copenhagen, which together with CPH:DOX introduced the first designer sofa cinema called Social Cinema, where you could experience documentaries in a beautiful and cozy setting.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg also offers a smaller screening room, a spectacular Virtual Reality cinema, a specially curated art exhibition as well as several social and lounge areas.
